Terminali Italia, agreement for management of Catania intermodal freight terminal

Agreement between the Region of Sicily and SIS

The Region of Sicily, Terminali Italia and Società Interporti Siciliani (SIS) signed an agreement for the operation of the Catania intermodal freight terminal. With this agreement, which is part of a new network contract called CINT (Catania Intermodale), Terminali Italia - a company of RFI (FS Group) for terminal services (loading and unloading of swap bodies, containers, semi-trailers and train shunting) - will handle first and last-mile rail and operational services at the intermodal hub, which is located a short distance from the Bicocca railway station, while the Region of Sicily, through SIS, is in the process of completing and commissioning the facility, which is considered fundamental for increasing road/rail intermodal freight traffic.

The close collaboration between Terminali Italia and SIS will increase production capacity through the adoption of shared business models to offer customers the full range of services available at the Catania intermodal freight terminal; on the one hand, the management of the Catania Bicocca railway terminal with not only operational, but also administrative and commercial activities offered by Terminali Italia and, on the other hand, the management of the Catania intermodal freight terminal with the potential to attract new traffic to the area will be provided by SIS. Another FS Group company, Mercitalia, also operates at the Catania intermodal freight terminal, offering rolling stock handling services

The agreement was signed today, Tuesday 24 May, in the presence of Regional Infrastructure Councillor, Marco Falcone, Catania City Councillor, Michele Cristaldi, Terminali Italia CEO, Giuseppe Acquaro, and SIS President, Giuseppe Salonia.
