The transfer of traffic from road to rail contributes decisively to a better quality of life. By promoting environmentally conscious actions to be carried out by each employee on a daily basis, we constantly focus on the impacts from our activities to increasingly reduce the possibility of risks to the environment.

The aim is to disseminate a solid culture of environmental protection, based on full compliance with EU, national, regional and voluntary regulations, and to provide a benchmark for those who work for the company on a daily basis, as well as for those who come into contact with it from outside.

In managing our activities, we strive to:

  • make rational and efficient use of natural resources and raw materials with the objective of reducing consumption wherever possible;
  • improve energy efficiency through the adoption of conscious corporate practices;
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions;
  • reduce impacts on the environment such as noise emissions, electromagnetic emissions and emissions into the atmosphere, soil and water;
  • implement an Environmental Management System for the entire company and improve its performance over time;
  • contribute to increasing the environmental awareness of the main internal and external stakeholders, promoting dialogue and cooperation with other FS Group companies and its suppliers;
  • design and manage all business processes to reduce impacts on the environment;
  • comply with, and where possible exceed, EU, national, regional regulations and legal requirements.

As part of our Environmental Management System, we aim to improve the values of the following indicators:

  • energy consumption from non-renewable sources;
  • atmospheric CO2 emissions;
  • acoustic and electromagnetic emissions;
  • waste sent for recycling;
  • water consumption.

Combined road-rail transport is emerging as a mode for medium-distance freight transport with the least impact on the environment.

Whenever freight is transported by rail, energy consumption is reduced and climate protection is promoted. On average, non-accompanied combined transport saves 29% of energy compared to road transport.

The CO2 greenhouse gas savings are even higher, according to various European studies: on average, non-accompanied combined transport reduces CO2 emissions by 55% compared to road transport.

Through our national network of intermodal terminals, we ensure that our services are used to ensure the completion of the freight cycle.
